Durango was inhabited initially by several groups like tepehuanes, acaxees, xiximes and tarahumaras, soon conquered by the Spaniards. On 1563, Francisco de Ibarra founds the capital city Durango, that means " fertile valley with water ". Due to the mines and great valleys, the full state of explorers and adventurers, this was during the colony. The War of Independence, the state became scene of important events, like the execution of the priests in the Property of San Juan de God., as well as the battle of the 5 of May of 1862, where general Patoni fought against the French invaders, in the city of Puebla. At the moment the state of Durango is a mining and commercial center, due to its Hill of Market, considered one of iron the richer deposits of the world. The residence of the duranguense government is in the State Capital, whose official name is Victory of Durango.
