Michael Jackson was an American recording artist, entertainer, businessman and humanitarian, whose unique contributions to popular music and dance, along with his highly publicized personal life, made him a central—and sometimes controversial—part of popular culture for four decades. He sold over 750 million records worldwide.
The seventh child of the Jacson family he made his debut as a performer in 1964 as a member of The Jackson Brothers. He began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group, a careerthat saw him dubbed the "King of Pop." He died on June 25, 2009, aged 50, after suffering a stroke.
